The International Advisory Panel on Biodiversity Credits (IAPB) is pleased to bring forward three draft standards for public consultation at COP 17 on 25 October.
Developed through months of dedicated work and fruitful collaboration with a wide range of partners, the standards build on the Framework for High Integrity Biodiversity Credit Markets and the joint IAPB–BCA–WEF High-Level Principles. Their purpose is simple: to turn high-level principles into practical, implementation-ready standards that can help accelerate the development of high integrity scalable nature markets around the world.
The three standards address some of the most important challenges facing nature markets today: demonstrating additionality, risks and claims, and upholding inclusion and equity.
Together, they offer a practical checklist of requirements and leading practices for governments, project developers, buyers, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, and other market participants. Designed around a consistent core of requirements while allowing for local adaptation to different ecosystems, rights and contexts, the standards aim to build confidence, strengthen safeguards and help nature markets scale and deliver meaningful outcomes for biodiversity and people.
We invite all interested stakeholders to review the drafts and share their views during the public consultation, which opens on 25 October and closes on 14 December. Your feedback will be essential in refining these standards and ensuring they are robust, practical and fit for purpose. Details on how to take part in the consultation will be shared shortly, so please watch this space.
